A brief overview

Application Virtualization and Streaming from Symantec

SWV = Symantec Workspace Virtualization

SWS =  Symantec Workspace Streaming

Application "sand-boxing"

During the virtualization process, applications are "packed" (virtualized) in independent and manageable units ("sandbox")

This way applications can quickly and easily be enabled or disabled (e.g. via command line). Applications can also be reset to the original base-installation (e.g. Office) in only a few seconds (typically < 2 s)!

Virtualized applications can be sheltered from the operating system or against each other (or both) which means applications will not affect other applications. As a result, multiple versions of the same application can be used in parallel on the same OS.
